Strong starts to the season for Airdrie and Okotoks continued on Friday evening.
Okotoks (4) vs. Mountainview (1)
OKOTOKS – A two-goal night from Nicholas Murrell paced the Okotoks Bisons to a 4-1 win over the Mountainview Colt at Murray Arena on Friday night.
Murrell opened the scoring 12:09 into the first period, then broke a 1-1 tie early in the middle stanza to put the Bisons (3-1-0) ahead for good.
Tyler Rohl and Bradley Whitehead rounded out the Okotoks attack, each adding a single on the night, while Robbie McLean finished with a pair of helpers.
Devin Reagan picked up the win between the pipes, his third of the season, stopping 22-of-23 shots fired his way.
Quintin Thorburn had the lone goal for the Colts (2-2-1).
Airdrie (6) vs. High River (3)
AIRDRIE – Clay Murray and Rylan Plante-Crough combined for six points as the Airdrie Thunder skated to a 6-3 win over the High River Flyers on Friday evening.
Murray finished with two goals and one assist, while Plante-Crough had a goal and two helpers.
Dylan Wenzel, Austin O’Bray and Jared Bainbridge rounded out the scoring for the Thunder (4-1-0), which held leads of 3-2 after one period and 5-2 going into the final frame.
Ryan Simpson stopped 37-of-40 shots fired his way in the Airdrie crease, while his counterpart, Dylan Jensen, also finished with 37 saves on the night between the pipes for High River (1-2-1).
Reigning HJHL Player of the Week Davis Sheldon found the back of the net twice for the Flyers, while Braiden Burke added a single.
Cochrane (13) vs. Three Hills (0)
MEDICINE HAT – The Cochrane Generals scored early and often as they cruised to a 13-0 win over the Three Hills Thrashers.
Braden Bain had a natural hat trick; all goals coming within a span of 5:26 of the second period.
Slater Ransom finished with two goals and two assists, while Austin Keller netted one goal and setup three more.
Scott Shugg added a pair of goals and one helper, Colton Wong led all skaters with four assists on the evening, while Erik Garber stopped all 10 shots he faced to earn his second consecutive shutout.
Walid Hassin, Harry Osler, Jarod Domingo, Jordan Fisher and Chris Sambrook rounded out the scoring for Cochrane (3-2-0), which finished the night 3-for-5 on the power-play, while also adding a pair of shorthanded tallies.
