HJHL Roundup: Road Warriors

Road teams were victorious in four-of-five games on Thanksgiving Sunday.

High River (5) vs. Ponoka (4)

PONOKA – Michael McTighe scored the winner 2:01 into overtime to propel the High River Flyers to a thrilling 5-4 win over the Ponoka Stampeders.

Liam Bollivar, Evan Pakkala and Davis Sheldon each finished with a goal and assist for the Flyers (2-2-1), while Josh Younker rounded out the scoring with a single.

Dylan Jensen made 23 saves between the High River pipes, picking up his first win of the season along the way.

Taylor McLaughlin made 49 saves for Ponoka (0-5-1).

GAME SUMMARY

Cochrane (5) vs. Strathmore (2)

Cochrane – Talus Home finished with a pair of goals as the Cochrane Generals used a three-goal second period to pace themselves to a 5-2 win over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings.

Walid Hassin, Harry Osler and Austin Keller rounded out the scoring for the Generals (4-2-0), which held a 43-26 advantage in the shots department.

Erik Garber earned the win between the pipes, making 24 saves along the way, while Strathmore (3-2-1) goaltender Indiana Kelly turned aside 38 shots.

Cole Busslinger and George Montour provided the offence for the Wheatland Kings.

GAME SUMMARY

Red Deer (4) vs. Okotoks (2)

OKOTOKS – Dalton Angeltvedt scored twice and setup another as the Red Deer Vipers skated to a 4-2 win over the Okotoks Bisons.

Angeltvedt scored the lone goal of the opening frame, assisted on the eventual winner in the second frame wile also tallying his second of the day just over two minutes later.

Declan Johnston and Aidan Wilson also found the back of the net for Red Deer (4-1-0), which got a 36-save performance from goaltender Branden Bilodeau.

Joshua McCulloch and Jharin Bantugan had the goals for Okotoks (3-2-0), while Matthew McDonald made 38 saves between the barber poles.

GAME SUMMARY

Airdrie (6) vs. Stettler (2)

STETTLER – Using a four-goal performance from Clay Murray, the Airdrie Thunder took a 6-2 win over the Stettler Lightning on Sunday.

Murray registered his 12th career HJHL hat trick, scoring his third of the night just past the midway mark of the second period on a shorthanded effort. He would add a power-play marker for his fourth of the night early in the final frame.

Rylan Plante-Crough also had a four-point night for the Thunder (5-1-0), collecting four helpers on the day, while Brendan Davidson finished with three assists.

Austin O’Bray and Ryan Knapp rounded out the scoring, while C.J. Wedenig made 41 saves between the pipes.

Braydon Whiteford scored both goals for the Lightning (1-4-0), which got 36 saves from goaltender Brett Roper.

GAME SUMMARY

Blackfalds (4) vs. Coaldale (2)

COALDALE – A pair of goals off the stick of Landon Siegle paced the Blackfalds Wranglers to a 4-2 road victory over the Coaldale Copperheads.

Curtis Rangen and Ryan Chambers also found the back of the net for Blackfalds (3-1-0), while goaltender Rylan Bardick turned aside 33-of-35 shots fired his way.

Riese Nevil and Logan Middleton responded for Coaldale (3-2-0) with a pair of special team’s goals in the middle stanza. Nevil on the man-advantage, while Middleton tallied his second of the of the season on a shorthanded effort.

Andrew Suriano made 28 saves in the loss.
