It was an all North vs. South Friday in the HJHL, with each Division picking up a pair of big wins.
Mountainview (5) vs. High River (4)
HIGH RIVER – Raegen Keim scored the go-ahead goal with just 1:39 remaining to lift the Mountainview Colts to a 5-4 win over the High River Flyers.
Matthew Myatt led the Colts (9-7-3) with a pair of goals, while Alan Klinck and Josh Gette each chipped in with a single.
Ethan Woodward stopped 28-of-32 shots faced to register the win between the pipes for Mountainview, which got three assists from forward Colton Anderson.
Davis Sheldon had a three-point night for the Flyers (9-8-3), while Connor Taylor found the back of the net twice. Evan Pakkala rounded out the scoring with his 13th of the season.
Dylan Jensen took the loss in the High River crease, making 31 saves on the night.
The Colts jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period, however the Flyers were able to battle back with three unanswered to make it a 3-3 game six minutes into the middle stanza.
Airdrie (3) vs. Medicine Hat (1)
AIRDRIE – Stellar individual efforts from Ryan Simpson and Andrew McLennan paced the Airdrie Thunder to a thrilling 3-1 win over the Medicine Hat Cubs on Friday.
Simpson stood tall between the pipes for Airdrie (12-5-2), stopping 52-of-53 shots fired his way, while McLennan provided all the offence, scoring three times on the night, including two in the middle stanza to open the scoring after a scoreless first period.
Martyn Clift made 42 saves, while Matt Clement scored the lone goal of the game for the Cubs (6-10-0).
Cochrane (6) vs. Stettler (3)
COCHRANE – Talus Hume scored twice and setup another as the Cochrane Generals skated to a 6-3 win over the Stettler Lightning on Friday evening.
Brandon Aab and Austin Keller also had three-point nights for Cochrane (10-8-0), as Aab scored once and setup two others, while Keller finished the night with three assists.
Erik Garber picked up the win between the pipes, his 10th of the season, stopping 28-of-31 shots along the way.
Sam Norris, Slater Ransom and Scott Shugg rounded out the scoring for Cochrane.
Kieran Rost, Erik Rost and Tye Mulgrove replied for Stettler (5-9-2), which got 25 saves from goaltender Nick Lepp.
Okotoks (6) vs. Three Hills (1)
THREE HILLS – A four-goal opening frame powered the Okotoks Bisons to a 6-1 road victory over the Three Hills Thrashers on Friday evening,
Joshua McCulloch led all skaters with a four-point night, finding the back of the net twice and setting up two other goals, while Nicholas Ewanchuk stopped 20-of-21 shots in the Okotoks (13-5-1) crease.
Tyler Rohl, Robbie McLean, Kyle Dunville and Bradley Whitehead rounded out the scoring for the Bisons, which held leads of 4-1 after 20 minutes and 5-1 going into the final frame.
Derek Samoleski had the lone goal for the Thrashers (0-11-0), while netminder Klay Munro finished with 49 saves on the night.
