A defensive battle in Medicine Hat highlighted a four game Saturday night in the HJHL.

Cochrane (5) vs. Strathmore (2)

STRATHMORE – A two-goal night off the stick of Talus Hume paced the Cochrane Generals to a 5-2 win over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings.

Jarod Domingo, Slater Ransom and Christian Dees rounded out the scoring for Cochrane (14-8-1), each finding the back of the net twice, while goaltender Erik Garber made 28-of-30 saves between the pipes.

Indiana Kelly kept the Wheatland Kings (9-9-2) in the game, making 48 saves on the evening, including 25 in the second period alone.

Chayse Hnatowich and Ethan Allen provided the offence for Stettler.

GAME SUMMARY

Medicine Hat (2) vs. Blackfalds (1)

MEDICINE HAT – Martyn Clift made 47 saves as the Medicine Hat Cubs held on for a 2-1 win over the Blackfalds Wranglers.

Clift made 19 of his 47 saves in the final 20 minutes alone, while Tavin Stadnicki and Kian Simonson gave the Cubs (8-12-0) their goals, both coming in the opening period.

Austin Wilson scored the lone goal for Blackfalds (13-8-0), which got 42 saves from netminder Lane Brann.

GAME SUMMARY

Red Deer (7) vs. Stettler (2)

RED DEER – Four power-play goals propelled the Red Deer Vipers to a 7-2 win over the Stettler Lightning Saturday evening.

Dalton Angeltvedt led all skaters with two goals and two assists, his second of the night coming on the man-advantage, while Logan Linnell, Brody Kalinowski and Keagan Kingwell also added power-play markers.

Mack Differenz and Aidan Wilson rounded out the Red Deer (15-4-1) attack, each adding a single.

Quade Cassidy and Tye Mulgrove provided the offence for Stettler (8-11-2), which got a 57-save performance from goaltender Brett Roper.

Cole Sears stopped 25-of-27 shots for Red Deer, improving to 7-2-0 on the season.

GAME SUMMARY

Ponoka (6) vs. Mountainview (3)

DIDSBURY – Tate Opdenries scored three times as the Ponoka Stampeders upended the Mountainview Colts by a 6-4 score on Saturday night at the Didsbury Recreation Complex.

Kieran Bulloch found the back of the net twice, while Jordan Sears added his fourth tally of the season to round out the scoring.

Keenan Starkell turned aside 21-of-24 shots in the Ponoka (4-11-2) crease.

Colton Anderson factored in on all three Mountainview (10-9-4) goals, scoring once and adding two assists, while Spencer Dowd and Matthew Myatt also found the back of the net.

Ethan Woodward made 30 saves in the loss.
