In a battle of two streaking teams, it was the Thunder that prevailed with the two points and top spot in the North Division heading into the break.
Airdrie (3) vs. Red Deer (2)
AIRDRIE – Benjamin Orde’s seventh goal of the season couldn’t have come at a better time for the Airdrie Thunder, as Orde broke a 2-2 deadlock with less than five minutes in regulation to propel the Thunder to a 3-2 win over the Red Deer Vipers.
Dante Raposo scored the other two goals for the Thunder (18-6-2), which improve their winning streak to six games, while snapping the Vipers’ (18-5-1) streak at 10 consecutive victories.
Dalton Angeltvedt and Jacksyn Goodall provide the offence for Red Deer, which got 39 saves from goaltender Cole Sears.
Ryan Simpson recorded the win between the pipes for Airdrie, his 10th of the season, stopping 34-of-36 shots fired his way.
Mountainview (4) vs. Stettler (3)
DIDSBURY – Colton Anderson had the lone goal of the shootout as the Mountainview Colts prevailed with a 4-3 win over the Stettler Lightning.
Quintin Thorburn, Corbin Houchin and Trevor Simpson found the back of the net in regulation for the Colts (11-11-4), with Simpson’s goal coming with 3:48 remaining in regulation, knotting the score up at three apiece.
Kieran Rost scored twice for Stettler (10-12-3), his sixth two-goal game of the season, while Dylan Houston added a single.
Ethan Woodward picked up his sixth win of the season in net for the Colts, stopping 32 shots along the way.
Brett Roper made 31 saves between the pipes for the Lightning.
Cochrane (6) vs. High River (2)
HIGH RIVER – A three-goal, two-assist performance off the stick of Talus Hume powered the Cochrane Generals to a 6-2 win over High River Flyers.
Hume, who factored in on five of the Generals’ (15-10-1) six goals, scored his first of the night midway through the opening frame, while adding his second and third in the opening and closing minutes of the third period, respectively.
Slater Ransom added a goal and two assists to the scoreboard for Cochrane, while Colton Wong and Taylor Girard each chipped in with a single.
Erik Garber was busy between the pipes for the Generals, making 40 saves on the night to secure his 13th win of the season.
Liam Bollivar and Michael McTighe provided the offence for the Flyers (15-10-3), which got 36 saves from goaltender Connor McCarroll.
