A pair of overtime games highlighted Saturday night in the HJHL.

Stettler (3) vs. Ponoka (2)

BIG VALLEY – Dylan Houston had two goals, including the game winner midway through overtime, as the Stettler Lightning edged the Ponoka Stampeders by a 3-2 score.

Ponoka (7-13-3) led 2-0 early in the third period thanks to goals from Walker Guthrie and Nate Higgins, but the Lightning (11-12-3) battled back with a pair of power-play markers.

Houston made it a 2-1 game 8:28 into the period with his first of the night, while Bryce Cornelissen forced overtime with 6:55 remaining.

Jordan McCallum picked up the win between the pipes, his fifth victory of the season, as he stopped 35-of-37 shots on the night.

Keenan Starkell was sharp in the loss for the Stampeders, finishing with a season-high 48 saves.

GAME SUMMARY

Strathmore (4) vs. Coaldale (3)

COALDALE – Bradley Tingey was the overtime hero, scoring with 1:31 remaining in the extra frame to lift the Strathmore Wheatland Kings to a thrilling 4-3 win over the Coaldale Copperheads.

Jaks Faris scored twice in regulation for the Wheatland Kings (11-12-2), his first of the night coming less than three minutes in to open the scoring.

Austin Holmes rounded out the scoring for Strathmore, which got 36 saves from netminder Indiana Kelly, who picked up his 10th win of the season.

Andrew Suriano made 20 saves in the Coaldale (15-9-2) crease, while Jayden Bexte, Calvin Swanson and Gavin Burns provided the offence.

GAME SUMMARY

Red Deer (7) vs. Blackfalds (0)

RED DEER – Seven different players found the back of the net as the Red Deer Vipers used a balanced attack to cruise to a 7-0 win over the Blackfalds Wranglers.

Dalton Angeltvedt and Declan Johnston each finished with a goal and two helpers for the Vipers (20-5-1), while Connor Sullivan also recorded a three-point night, picking up three assists.

Jacksyn Goodall, Mack Differenz, Logan Linnell, Tristyn Zarubiak and Owen Cummerford rounded out the scoring for Red Deer, which held a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes before tacking on four more tallies in the middle stanza.

Branden Bilodeau registered his second shutout of the season, and sixth of his career, turning aside all 24 shots he faced on the night.

GAME SUMMARY

Cochrane (8) vs. Medicine Hat (0)

COCHRANE – A five-point performance from Slater Ransom propelled the Cochrane Generals to an 8-0 win over the Medicine Hat Cubs.

Ransom scored twice and setup three others, while teammate Harry Osler finished with two goals of his own.

Talus Hume chipped in with a goal and three helpers for the Generals (16-11-1), while Brandon Aab added a goal and two assists. Austin Keller and Jarod Domingo rounded out the scoring.

Cochrane’s offence got stronger as the game went on, scoring once in the opening frame, twice in the middle stanza and then exploding for five goals in the third period.

Knute Loe stopped all 23 shots he faced to record his first career HJHL shutout in just his fourth start.
