Road teams prevailed victorious in three of four games on Friday night

Stettler (5) vs. Airdrie (4)

AIRDRIE – Dylan Houston had a four-point outing as the Stettler Lightning held on for a 5-4 win over the Airdrie Thunder on Friday evening.

Houston scored twice and setup two more, while Kieran Rost added a goal and two assists to the scoreboard for the Lightning (13-13-3), which held a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes and a 5-2 lead going into the final frame.

Tyler Wagner and Dante Raposo rounded out the Stettler scoring, while goaltender Nick Lepp was sensational between the pipes, making 50 saves on the night.

Clay Murray and Dante Raposo each scored twice for the Thunder (20-7-3), which got 41 saves from goaltender C.J. Wedenig.

GAME SUMMARY

Red Deer (3) vs. Mountainview (1)

DIDSBURY – A pair of third period markers off the stick of Ben Shushkovsky propelled the Red Deer Vipers to a 3-1 win over the Mountainview Colts, extending their winning streak to five games.

Logan Linnell opened the scoring for the Vipers (23-5-1) with the lone goal of the first period, while Colton Anderson replied for the Colts (13-12-4) with the second period’s lone goal.

Shushkovsky put the Vipers out in front with 8:32 remaining in the final frame and then added his own insurance marker just 2:11 later.

Cole Sears stopped 25-of-26 shots between the pipes for Red Deer, improving his record to 11-3-0 on the season, while Mountainview got a season-high 46-save effort from netminder Ethan Woodward.

GAME SUMMARY

Okotoks (7) vs. Strathmore (4)

OKOTOKS – A five-goal opening frame paced the Okotoks Bisons to a 7-4 win over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings on Friday evening.

The Bisons (18-9-2) opened up a 5-2 lead after 20 minutes before the two teams traded goals in each of the next two periods.

Tyler Bordt and Tyler Rohl each found the back of the net twice for the Bisons, while Joshua McCulloch, Ryan McLean and Nicholas Murrell each added a single.

Nicolas Weanchuk made 51 saves in the Okotoks crease.

Chayse Hnatowich had a hat trick for the Wheatland Kings (11-15-2), while Austin Holmes added a goal and assist.

GAME SUMMARY

Ponoka (6) vs. Three Hills (1)

THREE HILLS – Kieran Bulloch had a hat trick as the Ponoka Stampeders skated to a 6-1 victory over the Three Hills Thrashers.

Jacob Sayler added a goal and two helpers for the Stampeders (7-17-3), while Shae Reynolds finished the night with three assists.

Tate Opdendries, Nathan Walboer and Pierce Sorensen rounded out the Ponoka scoring, each finding the back of the net once.

Nathan Waiboer scored the lone goal of the game for the Thrashers (1-25-0).

Keenan Starkell made 14 saves in the Ponoka crease.
