Coaldale, Cochrane, Ponoka and Red Deer each extended their five-plus game winning streaks on Saturday, a day that featured the first ever HJHL outdoor game.

Red Deer (6) vs. Mountainview (4)

RED DEER – Six different skaters found the back of the net as the Red Deer Vipers prevailed with a 6-4 win over the Mountainview Colts in the first ever HJHL Outdoor Classic.

Jordan Volk led the charge with a goal and assist for the Vipers (26-5-1), which extended their winning streak to eight games and clinch the first overall seed in the Northern Division with the victory.

Mack Differenz and Jackson Goodall found the back of the net in the opening frame, while Brody Kalinowski, Connor Sullivan and Kayson Gallant added goals in the middle stanza for the Vipers, making it a 5-3 game after 40 minutes.

Matthew Myatt had two goals for the Colts (14-14-4), while Alan Klinck and Josh Gette had the others.

Cole Sears finished with 29 saves in the Red Deer crease, recording his 12th win of the season.

Thomas Della Siega made 23 saves for Mountainview, while Colton Anderson picked up one assist on the night, his 300 career HJHL point.

GAME SUMMARY

Coaldale (3) vs. Medicine Hat (2)

COALDALE – Tyler Anderson was the overtime hero on Saturday evening, scoring the winner just 38 seconds into overtime to propel the Coaldale Copperheads to their sixth straight victory, a 3-2 win over the Medicine Hat Cubs.

Chase Williamson and Jedd Horvath scored in regulation for Coaldale (21-9-2), which now has sole possession of first place in the Southern Division.

Noah Irvine and Matt Clement scored in regulation for the Cubs (11-18-2).

Andrew Suriano wasn’t too busy in the Coaldale crease, but recorded the win, making 13 saves on the night.

Josh Breznik stood on his head between the pipes for the Cubs, keeping them in the game with a 57-save performance.

GAME SUMMARY

Ponoka (8) vs. Three Hills (2)

PONOKA – The Ponoka Stampeders made it five in a row with an 8-2 win over the Three Hills Thrashers on Saturday evening.

Braden Klessens led all skaters with three points, scoring once and adding two helpers, while Peirce Sorensen had a goal and assist as the Stampeders (11-17-3) scored four times in each of the final two periods.

Ryan Harder, Jordan Sears, Brendan Scott, Brandon Brockerville, Kacey Straub and Dakota Sullivan all chipped in with a single apiece.

Kevin Schrock and Derek Samoleski found the back of the net for the Thrashers (1-29-0) just 32 seconds apart prior to the midway mark of the final frame, but the damage was already done.

Keenan Starkell stopped 14-of-16 shots faced to register the victory between the pipes for Ponoka, while Klay Munro finished with 36 saves for Three Hills.

GAME SUMMARY

Cochrane (9) vs. Strathmore (4)

COCHRANE – Talus Hume and Slater Ransom combined for 10 points as the Cochrane Generals extended their winning streak to five games with a 9-4 rout over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings on Saturday.

Hume and Ransom each recorded hat tricks, while also picking up two assists, to lead the attack for Cochrane (20-11-1), which held a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes and 5-2 lead heading into the final frame.

Harry Osler, River Ross and Brandon Aab each added a single to round out the scoring for the Generals, which got 23 saves from netminder Knute Loe.

Bradley Tingey, Hayden Vander Ploeg and Grady White responded for the Wheatland Kings (11-18-2).
