Berner backstops Coaldale to Game 1 victory

Nolan Berner made 30 saves as the Coaldale Copperheads secured a 5-2 win over the High River Flyers in Game 1 of their best-of-five South Division semifinal series on Tuesday evening.

Tyler Anderson led all skaters with three points on the night, firing the final goal into the empty net, while also collecting two assists.

Chase Williamson’s unassisted effort with 6:03 remaining in the second period broke a 2-2 tie and would stand up as the winner, while Levi Anderson, Riese Nevil and Calvin Swanson rounded out the Coaldale scoring.

Josh Younker and Michael McTighe had the goals for the Flyers, which led for most the second period.

Chantz Vinck stopped 44-of-48 shots fired his way in the High River crease.

The series now shifts to High River for Game 2 on Friday evening. Puck drop at the Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex is slated for 8:00pm.
