Sheldon, Flyers hang on for Game 2 win

Davis Sheldon scored twice, including the winner, as the High River Flyers 5-4 winners over the Coaldale Copperheads on Friday evening in Game 2 of their now tied best-of-seven series.

The Flyers came out red-hot, scoring four times before the midway mark of the first period as Sheldon, along with Evan Pakkala, Connor Taylor and Michael McTighe found the back of the net for the Flyers.

Tyler Anderson put the Copperheads on the board with the lone goal of the second period, coming on the power play 1:28 into the frame, while Calvin Swanson and Chase Williamson added the Coaldale scoreboard just 40 seconds apart midway through the third period, cutting the lead to just one.

Sheldon put an end to the comeback, restoring a two-goal lead for the Flyers with his second of the night with 3:06 left.

Ty Abbott would add a late marker for Coaldale.

Chantz Vinck stopped 37-of-41 shots faced in the High River crease, including 18 in the third period alone.

Game 3 of the best-of-five series goes Saturday night back in Coaldale. Puck drop is at 8:30pm.
