For the second consecutive season, the Red Deer Vipers are Heritage Junior Hockey League champions.
Logan Linnell had a natural hat trick as the Vipers were 4-2 winners over the Coaldale Copperheads in the third and final game of the best-of-three HJHL Championship series on Sunday evening at Servus Arena in Red Deer.
Branden Bilodeau stopped 37-of-39 shots in the Red Deer crease, including all 15 shots he faced in the third period.
Ben Shushkovsky had the other goal for the Vipers, which trailed 2-1 just past the midway mark of the second period before Linnell went to work, scoring both a power-play and shorthanded marker before the period was over.
Ryan Tessemaker and Riese Nevil provided the offence for Coaldale, which got 27 saves from netminder Nolan Berner.
The Vipers won the HJHL Championship in 2017, 2004 and 1999, while also winning the Provincial Championship in 2006 and 2004 and Keystone Cup Championship in 2006.
The 2018 Alberta Junior B Provincials begin March 29 in Fort St. John.
