Both Heritage Junior Hockey League teams kicked-off the 2018 Alberta Provincials with wins on Thursday.
Aidan Wilson, Logan Linnell, Tristyn Zarubiak and Brody Kalinowski each found the back of the net as the Vipers opened with a 4-1 win over Calgary Royals Gold.
Brendan Bilodeau picked up the win between the pipes, making 22 saves on the day, while Declan Johnston and Mack Differenz each chipped in with a pair of assists.
In the last game of Day 1, the Copperheads spoiled the party, knocking off the host Fort St. John Huskies by a 5-0 score thanks to a three-goal, one-assist effort from Ty Abbott.
Jayden Smith and Turner Sharp rounded out the scoring, while Levi Anderson, Jayden Bexte and Riese Nevil each finished with a pair of hellpers.
Nolan Berner recorded the shutout in net, stopping all 29 shots he faced.
The Vipers take on Peace River on Friday morning, while the Copperheads clash with Wetaskiwin later on in Day 2.
