Vipers book ticket to Gold Medal game

The Red Deer Vipers will be playing for gold at the 2018 Alberta Provincials.

Dalton Angeltvedt scored twice, including the go-ahead goal with 2:37 left in the third period, giving the Vipers a thrilling 3-2 win over the Wetaskiwin Icemen in the semifinals on Saturday evening.

The Gold Medal game takes place Sunday at 3:00pm MT at the North Peace Arena and will see the Vipers take on the Wainwright Bisons.

Logan Linnell added a goal and assist, while Aidan Wilson factored in on all three Red Deer goals, finishing the game with three assists.

Brendan Bilodeau was rock solid in net, making 42 saves along the way.

Earlier in the day, Red Deer cruised by the Beverly Warriors by a 6-2 score, finishing off the round robin portion of the event with a perfect 3-0-0 record.

Linnell and Mack Differenz each scored twice in that one, while Wilson had a goal and assist.

Cole Sears recorded the win between the pipes, stopping 34-of-36 shots.

Meanwhile, the Coaldale Copperheads season ended after a 1-1 tie with the Bisons.

The tie dropped them to 1-1-1 during the tournament, finishing one point back of the Icemen for second spot in Pool B.

Tyler Anderson had the lone goal of the game for Coaldale, while Nolan Berner made 27 saves.
