COALDALE – A three-goal effort off the stick of Chase Williamson paced the Coaldale Copperheads to a 5-2 win over the Cochrane Generals in Game 1 of their best-of-seven South Division Final series.
Jared Bainbridge and Jason Creighton rounded out the scoring, while Nolan Berner turned aside 33 shots between the pipes.
Chris Sambrook and Jordan Fisher provided the offence for Cochrane, which got 20 saves from netminder Erik Garber.
Coaldale led 1-0 after 20 minutes and 3-1 going into the final frame.
The series shifts to Cochrane for Game 2 on Thursday. Puck drop at the Cochrane Arena is slated for 8:00pm.
