Thunder win Game 2, one win away from HJHL Championship

COALDALE – The Airdrie Thunder are one win away from capturing the 2019 Heritage Junior Hockey League Championship after a 6-4 win in Game 2 against the Coaldale Copperheads.

Jordan McConnell found the back of the net twice, while Jackson Little made 27 saves between the pipes as the Thunder now lead the best-of-five series 2-0.

Cooper Page, Zachary Giroux, Rylan Plante-Crough and Barrett Sheen rounded out the scoring for Airdrie, which scored four times in the third period to break a 2-2 tie after 40 minutes.

Jayden Smith, Clayton Nevil, Jared Bainbridge and Jason Creighton replied for Coaldale, with got 28 saves from netminder Nolan Berner.

The Thunder can clinch the Championship on home ice Tuesday evening. Puck drop for Game 3 at the Ron Ebbesen Arena is slated for 8:00pm.
