HJHL Roundup - Nov. 3

HJHL Roundup - Nov. 3

Scott Fisher

Flyers 4, Wheat King 3

Who forgot about the Flyers?

After an 0-7 start, many may have written off the High River Flyers.

Big mistake.

Jake Snashall scored the game-winner as the Flyers beat the Strathmore Wheat Kings 4-3 on Sunday night,

Layne Sniher, Josh Russo and Logan MacLean also scored as the Flyers improved to 4--1-1 in their last six contests.

Vipers 5, Cubs 2

Keep an eye on Justin Paarup.

The Vipers forward sniped a hat trick  on Sunday as Red Deer beat Medicine Hat.

Easton Roberts and Jarvis Gaume also scored for the Vipers.

Mackenzie Fritzler and Brayden Anderson replied for the Cubs.

Thunder 5, Wranglers 3

It was only a matter of time.

HJHL scoring champion Jordan McConnell missed the the first month of the season with a rib injury.

But it looks like he's back in business now.

McConnell scored twice and added an assist as the Airdrie Techmation Thunder beat the Sylvan Lake Wranglers 5-3 on Sunday.

The defending Alberta champions won their sixth straight game to improve to 10-3-0 on the season.

Nathan Fox, Cody Brodhagen and Tristan Paquette also scored for Airdrie.

Thunder head coach Derek Stamp was pleased to with the 2-for-2 road trip that included an 8-3 victory in Ponoka on Saturday.

"We tried to play a pretty simple game tonight," Stamp said. "Especially after a late finish (Saturday) night.

"We were able to capitalize on the powerplay and chip in another shorthanded goal."

The Thunder visit the Rocky Rams on Friday at 8:30 p.m.

Bisons 14, Stampeders 1

Remember when the Airdrie Thunder went 18-0 to begin last season?

Apparently, the Okotoks Bisons do.

Tyson Scott scored four goals and added a pair of assists as the Thunder beat the Ponoka Stampeders 14-1 to move to 15-0-0 on the season.

Tyler Witzke scored a pair and added a trio of assists while Riker Franczak and Devyn Stewart both potted a pair apiece.

Walker Guthrie scored for the Stampeders.
