HJHL Roundup - Nov. 8

Scott Fisher

Copperheads 4, Flyers 3

The Snakes scored three times in the opening period and then held on to beat the Flyers 4-3.

Mason Sande, Tyler Anderson and Jason Creighton got the party started and then Isaac Benoit potted the eventual game-winner at 5:20 of the third period.

Layne Sniher and Jakob Jefferies had a goal and an assist apiece for High River, which also got a goal from Josh Russo.

Goaltender Broc Merkl made 38 saves as Coaldale (9-5-1) moved to within two points of the second-place Cochrane Generals in the HJHL's South Division.

The two rivals will do battle Saturday night at the Snake Pit (8:30 p.m.).

The Flyers visit the Stettler Lightning on Saturday (7:30 p.m.).

Thunder 8, Rams 1

He's back.

Reigning HJHL scoring champion scored a hat trick and added an assist to power the Airdrie Techmation Thunder to an 8-1 victory over the expansion Rocky Rams 8-1 on Friday night.

Kyle Bracko and Nathan Fox each potted a pair while Tyler Petrie chipped in with a single for Airdrie.

Braden Bystrom's late first period marker was the only puck to elude Thunder goalie Justin Fedoruk, who made 40 saves to pick up the win.

Airdrie (11-3-0) won its seventh straight game but will face a stiff test when they visit the unbeaten Okotoks Bisons on Sunday (1:15 p.m.).

Rocky (2-11-0) welcomes the Medicine Hat Cubs on Sunday (12:30 p.m.).
