HJHL Roundup - Nov. 17

HJHL Roundup - Nov. 17

Scott Fisher

Cubs 5, Lightning 1

The Medicine Hat Cubs were a feel-good story in last year's playoffs.

But they're no longer interested in being an over-achieving upset-minded squad.

They want to be one of the favourites.

Fair enough.

Spencer Chapman and Mason Fischer each had a goal and an assist as the Cubs beat the Stettler Lightning 4-1.

Chandler Aleman, Brayden Anderson and Cooper Hilworth also scored as Medicine Hat improved to 10-4-2 in the ultra-competitive South Division.

Goaltender Brett Vanderveer booted out 40 pucks for the win.

Erik Rost was the lone Lightning player to beat Vanderveer.

Generals 4, Wheatland Kins 2

The Generals spread the offence around on Sunday.

Dean Olenyk, Taylor Girard and Jordan Fisher had a goal and a helper apiece for Cochrane in a 4-2 win.

Ryan Davis also found the back of the net as the Generals improved to 12-5-1.

Zachary Suntjens and Wacy Sandum replied for Strathmore.

Copperheads 5, Flyers 3

Josh Russo gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead, but the Snakes didn't panic.

Brandyn Howg, Isaac Benoit and Jason Creighton all had a goal and an assist as the Copperheads battled back for a 5-3 win.

Ty Abbott and Ethan Klemen also bent the twine as Coaldale improved to 12-6-1.

Layne Sniher also scored for High River.
