Wheatland Kings 7, Rams 6 (overtime)

The Wheatland Kings escaped a hornet's nest on Saturday night.

The Rocky Rams exploded for five second-period goals to take a 6-4 lead into the final frame.

But Thomas Tyson scored with 4:32 to play and Wacy Sandum potted the equalizer with just 2:12 to play in regulation time to force sudden death.

Garret Vander Ploeg's hat trick goal was the overtime winner just 31 seconds into the extra frame to give Strathmore the 7-6 win.

Kody Hammond and Braden Tanner also found the net for the visitors.

The Rams spread the offence around as six different players found the scoresheet.

Brandt Seland potted a pair while Kehler Bagstad, Landon Siegle, Riley McKain and Ryan Chambers also lit the lamp for the hosts.

Rocky (8-20-2) sits four points clear of the Ponoka Stampeders for the final playoff spot in the North Division.

The Rams visit the Mountainview Colts on Friday (8 p.m.).

Strathmore improved to 10-19-0 and sits five points back of fifth-place High River, with two games in hand.

The Wheatland Kings visit Ponoka on Sunday (3 p.m.).
