HJHL Roundup - Jan. 12

Scott Fisher

Bisons 4, Cubs 3

The Bisons aren't into losing streaks.

One day after dropping their second game of the season, the Bisons got back in the win column.

Riker Franczak's second of the night on the powerplay with 5:44 left in regulation time was the game winner.

Mitch Wolfe and Tyson Scott also scored for Okotoks.

Noah Irvine, Ethan Machan and Mason Fischer replied for the Cubs.

The South Division rivals will do it all over again next weekend as Okotoks (28-2-0) visits Medicine Hat (20-8-2) on Friday (7:15 p.m.).

Thunder 5, Wranglers 4 (overtime)

Jason Wenzel is apparently in mid-season form.

Two nights after returning to the Airdrie Techmation Thunder lineup, the reigning HJHL Defenceman of the Year sniped the overtime winner in a 5-4 victory over the Sylvan Lake Wranglers.

Brayden Dunn's second of the night midway through the third period forced extra time while Jordan McConnell and Kory Zinck also lit the lamp for Airdrie.

Kayde Budgell, Zachary Daniels, Caileb Berge and Dayton Playford scored for Sylvan Lake.

"Our guys never gave up," said Thunder bench boss Derek Stamp.

"We were behind at the start and it took awhile for us to close the gap.

"Credit to our guys for staying patient and structured."

The Thunder (23-6-1) host the red-hot Red Deer Vipers on Friday (8 p.m.).

The Wranglers (17-13-2) visit the Stettler Lightning on Friday (7:30 p.m.).
