HJHL Playoff Roundup (Feb. 21)

HJHL Playoff Roundup (Feb. 21)

Scott Fisher

Colts 2, Thunder 1 (overtime)

Brandon Rude wasn't messing around.

As the Mountainview Colts and Airdrie Techmation Thunder headed to overtime tied at one in their playoff series opener, the Bowden product wasn't interested in playing all night.

Rude ended the close-checking affair just 36 seconds into sudden death to give the Colts a 1-0 lead in the HJHL North Division semifinal.

Thunder coach Derek Stamp praised the Colts effort as the visitors earned their second straight overtime win in Airdrie (the last one being a high-scoring 7-6 affair on Jan. 24).

"The Colts worked hard and were relentless on the puck all night," Stamp said.

"Obviously, it's not the start to the series that we wanted, but we will regroup, make some adjustments and be ready to go for Game 2."

Travis Gerrard forced extra time when he scored with less than eight minutes to play in regulation time.

Brayden Dunn provided Airdrie's lone goal in the tight-checking affair.

Jackson Little made 49 saves between the pipes for the Thunder.

Bisons 2, Flyers 0

Devin Reagan has been in playoff form all season.

So it should come as no surprise that the Bisons all-star 'tender put up a goose egg in the club's playoff opener.

Reagan booted out all 34 shots he faced as top-ranked Okotoks won on home ice.

Ryan Bedard and Riker Franczak gave Reagan all the offence he'd require.

Davyn LaRocke turned aside 39 shots for the Flyers.
