The Red Deer Vipers hit the win column on Day 2 of the Alberta Junior B Provincials, while the Mountainview Colts fell to 0-2-0.
Red Deer (4) – North Edmonton (2) Nicholas Glackin had a goal and assist as the Red Deer Vipers (1-1-0) skated to a 4-1 victory over the North Edmonton Red Wings (0-1-1) on Friday afternoon.
Brett Hoppus, Kale Lapointe and Dustin Spearing rounded out the Red Deer attack, each finding the back of the net on the day.
The teams were deadlocked 1-1 after 20 minutes before Red Deer pulled in front with a 3-1 cushion going into the third period.
Cole Sears stopped 28-of-30 shots fired his way in the Red Deer crease to earn the victory.
Wainwright (2) – Mountainview (1) Two goals in a span of 2:58 midway through the second period proved to be the difference as the Wainwright Bisons (1-1-0) edged the Mountainview Colts (0-2-0) by a 2-1 score in a physical contest on Friday evening.
After a scoreless first period, the Bisons got on the board 7:29 into the middle stanza, while extending their lead to 2-0 less than three minutes later.
Jack Vergouwen got the Colts on the board with 6:37 remaining in the game, but that would be all the offence they would muster.
Jake Carlson stopped 32 shots in a losing effort for the Colts.
