THREE HILLS – Patrick Fougere found the back of the net 3:36 into overtime to lift the Three Hills Thrashers to a 2-1 victory over the Banff Bears on Saturday night at the Three Hills Centennial Arena.

Thomas Campbell opened the scoring less than three minutes into the game to give the Thrashers (1-1-0) an early lead, but the Bears (0-0-1) would respond with a power-play marker off the stick of Therann Kincross late in the frame to knot the score at one through 20 minutes, which is how it would remain until overtime.

Aiden Doel was stellar in goal for Three Hills, stopping 31-of-32 shots fired his way.

Dominik Vollenweider made 26 saves between the pipes for the Bears.

Medicine Hat Cubs (1)

COCHRANE – Chad Harrison scored twice, while Austin Keller and Connor Rendell each finished with a three-point night as the Cochrane Generals cruised to a 5-1 win over the Medicine Hat Cubs on Saturday evening.

Harrison opened the scoring in the latter half of the first period, while Rendell added a power-play marker with just 17 ticks left in the frame to give the Generals (2-0-0) a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes.

Harrison and Colton Wong extended the lead to 4-0 with second period markers, while Talus Hume made it a 5-0 game in the final frame.

Ryan Fauth put the Cubs (0-1-0) on the board with 6:09 left in the third period, breaking the shutout bid of Generals goaltender Ty Robinson, who finished with 18 saves on the night.

Keller finished the night with three assists, while Rendell added two helpers to go along with his first period marker.

Dan Maier made 53 saves in the Cubs crease.

RED DEER – Branden Bilodeau stopped all 22 shots he faced as the Red Deer Vipers blanked the Ponoka Stampeders by a 4-0 score on Saturday night.

Bilodeau now has three shutouts in five career HJHL regular season games for the Vipers (1-1-0).

After a scoreless first period, Tye Munro put the Vipers on the board with 5:49 remaining in the middle stanza, while Tristan Zarubiak made it a two-goal lead just over a minute later.

Brett Marsollier and Justin Van Tetering added insurance markers in the third period.

Ponoka (0-1-0) goaltender Carter Gendreau stopped 36-of-40 shots fired his way.

Coaldale Copperheards (8)
High River Flyers (1)

HIGH RIVER – Isiah Day Chief and Clay Spencer had big nights, combining for eight points, as the Coaldale Copperheads won their second straight game to start the season, a convincing 8-1 win over the High River Flyers on Saturday evening.

Day Chief had a goal and three helpers, while Spencer finished the night with two goals and two assists.

Brendan Benson, Austin Holmes, Austyn Moser, Matt Krusky and Mackenzie Karl rounded out the scoring attack for the Copperheads (2-0-0), which held leads of 2-0 after 20 minutes and 6-1 going into the final frame.

Evan Pakkala tallied the lone goal of the game for High River (0-2-0), which got 45 saves from goaltender Dakota Omura.

Dillan Kelly was rock solid in the Coaldale crease, making 37 saves on the night.
