MEDICINE HAT – Clay Murray scored twice, including the game-winner with 20 seconds remaining in the third period, as the Airdrie Thunder edged the Medicine Hat Cubs by a 5-4 score at the Kinplex on Sunday afternoon.

Rylan Plante-Crough added a goal and two helpers for the Thunder (2-0-0), while Malyk John and Andrew McLennan chipped in with singles.

Brandon Stahl led the charge for the Cubs (0-2-0) with two goals and one assist, including a shorthanded effort to tie the game at 4-4 with just 1:40 remaining. Jo Holubowich and Tavin Straub each added a goal and assist.

Joel Lepper turned aside 36 shots to earn the win between the barber poles for the Thunder, while Dan Maier made 25 saves in the Cubs’ crease.

Okotoks Bisons (4)

STRATHMORE – Five unanswered goals, including four in the third period, propelled the Strathmore Wheatland Kings to a 6-4 come-from-behind victory over the Okotoks Bisons on Sunday afternoon.

Six different players found the back of the net for the Wheatland Kings (1-0-0), who were led by Cole Busslinger’s goal and two assists. Bradley Tingey, Ryan Grasdahl, Brenden Moore, Jaks Faris and Keenan Ogle all provided singles.

Brady Hoover made 38 saves to earn the win in goal, his 36th career HJHL victory.

Mark McLeod, Aiden Geiger, Brennan Fuoco and Spencer Bender each tallied for the Bisons (0-2-0), which held a 4-2 lead going into the third period. Draven Rees made 27 saves in the loss.

Banff Bears (3)

BANFF – Calvin Swanson ended the night with three goals and one assist as the Coaldale Copperheads cruised to an 8-3 win over the Banff Bears on Sunday afternoon.

Ryan Swier added a goal and two helpers, while Levi Anderson and Matt Krusky each chipped in with a goal and assist as the Copperheads (3-0-0) held leads of 3-1 after 20 minutes and 6-2 going into the final frame.

Dustin Houghton and Austyn Moser rounded out the Coaldale attack, while Dylan Swanson picked up the win in goal, making 13 saves on the day.

Nathan Cohen-Wallis scored twice for Banff (0-1-0), which got 52 saves from goaltender Michael Binczyk.

Daniel Nikiforov rounded out the Bears scoring with his second period tally.
