OKOTOKS – Matthew McDonald made 41 saves as the Okotoks Bisons hung on for a 3-2 win over the Red Deer Vipers on Friday night at Murray Arena.

Kyle Becker’s third period tally would prove to be the winner, while Spencer Bender and Mark McLeod tallied opening period goals for the Bisons (2-2-0). This marks the second time in three games this season McDonald has reached the 40-save plateau, a feat he only reached twice in 20 games last season.

Tye Munro scored both goals for the Vipers (2-3-0), which got 35 saves from goaltender Cole Sears.

Strathmore Wheatland Kings (6)

STETTLER – Donovan Granger scored twice, including the game-winner with just 1:05 left in the third period, as the Stettler Lightning were 7-6 winners over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings in a Friday night thriller.

Grange finished with two goals and one assist on the night, as did teammate Matt Sylvester. Kieran Rost added a goal and two helpers for the Lightning (2-1-0), while Bryce Cornelissen and Dylan Houston each chipped in with a single. Tanner Thomson made 28 saves in goal.

Kristian Ayoungman and Matt Thomson each found the back of the net twice for the Wheatland Kings (2-2-0), which got 41 saves from goaltender Pierre Wiederhold. Ryan Grasdahl and Keenan Ogle rounded out the scoring, each adding a single.

HIGH RIVER – Michael McTighe found the back of the net twice as the High River Flyers hung on for a 4-3 win over the Blackfalds Wranglers on Friday night.

Liam Hall’s tally with 2:37 remaining in the game to put the Flyers (2-3-0) up 4-2 proved to be the game winner, while goaltender Bryce Shegelski turned aside 28-of-31 shots fired his way between the pipes. Matt Whidden rounded out the High River scoring with his first of the season.

Braden Bystrom, Zane Bennett and Toran Corbier all scored for the Wranglers (0-2-0), which trailed 3-1 heading into the final frame. Lane Brann took the loss in goal, making 27 saves on the night.

Airdrie Thunder (1)

AIRDRIE – Talus Hume and Connor Rendell each scored twice as the Cochrane Generals skated to a 5-1 win over the Airdrie Thunder in a battle of unbeaten teams on Friday evening.

Walid Hassin rounded out the scoring for the Generals (5-0-0), which have now won five in a row to start the season. Ty Robinson was sensational in the Cochrane crease, stopping 40-of-41 shots fired his way.

Rylan Plante-Crough scored the lone goal for the Thunder (4-1-0), which got 28 saves from Kade Taplin between the pipes.

Banff Bears (2)

DIDSBURY – 

Colton Anderson and Evan Ingram combined for eight points as the Mountainview Colts routed the Banff Bears by a score of 9-2 on Friday evening.

Anderson and Ingram both finished the night with a goal and three helpers, while Jack Vergouwen found the back of the net twice.

Thomas Della Siega made 23 saves in goal for the Colts (3-1-0), which also got a goal and assist from Cale Brown, Cole Sutherland, Tyson Schmidt and Keaton Perigny. Raegen Keim rounded out the offence with a single.

Ayrton Chapman and Lachlan Shumak scored the goals for Banff (0-4-1).
