HIGH RIVER – Dylan Houston scored the game winner as the Stettler Lightning edged the High River Flyers by a score of 4-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Houston found the back of the net 41 seconds into third period, breaking a 2-2, while just 12 minutes later he would net his second of the game to make it a two-goal Lightning (3-1-0) lead.

Kieran Rost and Kyle Ringdahl rounded out the Stettler scoring, while Lane Congdon turned in a solid outing between the pipes, making 32 saves on the afternoon.

Josh Younker and Evan Pakkala provided the offence for the Flyers (2-4-0), which got 37 saves from goaltender Dakota Omura.

Strathmore Wheatland Kings (2)

STRATHMORE – Three unanswered goals in the third period paced the Mountainview Colts to a 5-2 win over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings on Saturday evening.

Tyson Schmidt, Josh Gette and Colton Anderson all tallied within a five-minute span, breaking a 2-2 tie and giving the Colts (4-1-0) a three-goal cushion.

Reed Engman and Spencer Dowd added first period markers for Mountainview, which got 28 saves from goaltender Jake Carlson.

Indiana Kelly stopped 29-of-34 shots fired his way in the Strathmore (2-3-0) net, while Hayden Vanderploeg and Jaks Faris provided the goal scoring.

Coaldale Copperheads (9)
Ponoka Stampeders (2)

COALDALE – Eight different skaters found the back of the net as the Coaldale Copperheads skated to their fifth straight win, cruising past the Ponoka Stampeders by a 9-2 score on Saturday night.

Graham Dugdale was the game’s lone multi-goal scorer, as he finished with a pair of goals and one assist. Dillan Kelly made 17 saves in goal to register his 40th career HJHL victory.

Austin Holmes, Austyn Moser, Ryan Tessemaker, Dustin Houghton, Matt Krusky, MacKenzie Karl and Brendon Benson each found the back of the net to round out the Coaldale (5-0-0) offence.

Leeroy Laglace and Jacob Sayler tallied for the Stampeders (0-3-0).

Red Deer Vipers (1)

RED DEER – The Cochrane Generals kept the streak alive, winning their sixth straight game to start the season as they took down the Red Deer Vipers by a 4-1 score on Saturday evening.

Geroge King and Chad Harrison tallied in the opening frame for the Generals (6-0-0), which led 2-1 after 20 minutes before Talus Hume made it a two-goal game with a second period marker. Connor Renddell rounded out the scoring 32 seconds into the third period.

Ryan Simpson grabbed the win between the pipes, stopping 26-of-27 shots fired his way.

Branden Bilodeau was busy in the Red Deer (2-4-0) crease, making 36 saves on the night, while Kale Lapointe tallied his second of the season.

Banff Bears (3)

AIRDRIE – Clay Murray scored twice and added an assist as the Airdrie Thunder used a five-goal third period to skate to a 6-3 win on over the Banff Bears on Saturday evening.

The Thunder (5-1-0) trailed 3-1 early in the third period before rattling off five unanswered goals off the sticks of Murray, Malyk John, Andrew McLennan, Jared Janke and Rylan Plante-Crough.

Joel Lepper made 29 saves in the Airdrie crease to pick up the victory.

Alex Skinner, Philip Schader and Kazu Prevost all tallied for Banff (0-5-1), which got 53 from goaltender Michael Binczyk.

Three Hills Thrashers (5)
Medicine Hat Cubs (4)

THREE HILLS – Ryan Spiller scored once in regulation and then again in the shootout as the Three Hills Thrashers were 5-4 winners over the Medicine Hat Cubs on Saturday night.

Tyrell McCubbing, Quintin Thorburn and Grady Conway each found the back of the net in regulation for the Thrashers (3-2-0), while Patrick Fougere added a shootout marker.

Aiden Doel was sensational in net, kicking aside 44 shots fired his way as the Three Hills was outshot 48-26 on the evening.

Quinn Lerner scored twice for the Cubs (0-3-2), while Ryan Fauth and Josh Dorn chipped in with singles. Dan Maier made 22 saves between the barber poles.
