RED DEER – Kale Lapointe opened the scoring and then closed it out with the shootout winner as the Red Deer Vipers prevailed with a 4-3 victory over the Stettler Lightning on Saturday evening.

Brett Hoppus and Mack Differenz also tallied for the Vipers (6-4-0), which have now won four straight.

Trailing 3-2 in the third period, Kieran Rost sent the game to overtime with a power play marker for Stettler (4-6-1) with less than three minutes to go.

Mark Bengert and Quade Cassidy also found the back of the net for the Lightning, which got 29 saves from netminder Jordan McCallum.

Cole Sears stopped 28-of-31 shots fired his way in the Red Deer crease.

THREE HILLS – Mitchell Visser scored three times as the high-scoring Mountainview Colts continued their ways with a 9-2 win over the Three Hills Thrashers on Saturday evening.

The Colts (9-1-0), which have now won seven in a row, now have 21 goals in the past two games.

Spencer Dowd, Tyson Schmidt, Austin Pedersen, Alan Klinck, Colton Anderson and Cale Brown rounded out the Mountainview attack, each netting a single.

Jake Carlson made 27 saves between the pipes to grab the win.

Michael Lougheed and Brenton Wood each tallied for Three Hills (4-6-1).

PONOKA – Jacob MacDonald scored twice including the game winner as the Airdrie Thunder hung on for a 5-3 win over the Ponoka Stampeders on Saturday night.

Malyk John opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first period to give Airdrie (9-2-2) a 1-0 lead after 20 minutes, while Jared Jenke and Rylan Plante-Crough added second period markers.

Joel Lepper stopped 22-of-25 shots between the pipes to earn his fourth victory of the season.

Justin McKenzie paced the Stampeders (2-9-0) with a goal and assist, while James Lea and Austin Ancion added singles. Robert Michetti was busy in net, making 47 saves on the night.
