COCHRANE – Ryan Simpson stopped all 29 shots he faced as the Cochrane Generals shutout the Airdrie Thunder 2-0 on Saturday evening.

After a scoreless first period, Walid Hassin gave Cochrane (17-2-0) the 1-0 lead 4:02 into the second frame, while Connor Rendell added an insurance marker with 5:46 left in the third period.

Joel Lepper stopped 37-of-39 shots fired his way in the Airdrie (13-3-2) crease.

Cochrane has now won six straight games.

COALDALE – Two goals in the opening 1:46 of the first period propelled the Red Deer Vipers to a 5-3 win over the Coaldale Copperheads on Saturday night.

Kale Lapointe scored twice for the Vipers (11-5-0), while Logan Linnell added a goal and assist.

Branden Bilodeau made 34 saves between the pipes to pick up the win, while Drew Joslin and Mack Differenz rounded out the scoring, each netting a single.

Matthew Nadeu, Jonathan Zdan and Brendon Benson each found the back of the net for the Copperheads (13-2-0).

STRATHMORE – Jordan McCallum made 28 saves as the Stettler Lightning held on for a 3-2 win over the Strathmore Wheatland Kings on Saturday evening.

Matt Sylvester’s go-ahead goal with 2:02 remaining in the second period stood up as the game-winner, while Bryce Cornelissen and Dylan Houston rounded out the scoring for Stettler (7-7-1), which went 2-for-4 on the power play.

Kristian Ayoungman and Jaks Faris replied for Strathmore (5-9-3), each netting a single.

Brady Hoover stopped 32-of-35 shots fired his way in goal.

PONOKA – Matt Clement scored three times and setup another as the Medicine Hat Cubs skated away with a 6-3 decision over the Ponoka Stampeders on Saturday night.

Clement found the back of the net in all three periods, while goaltender Kayden Pickles made 46 saves on the evening.

Ryan Fauth finished with a goal and assist, while Rhett Carlson and Alex Duclos rounded out the Cubs’ (2-12-4) scoring, each netting a single.

Roenick Minde, Jordan Sears and Chevazz Rabbitt provided the offence for Ponoka (3-12-2), each finding the back of the net once.
