PONOKA – Taite Opdendries scored the shootout winner, while Zeke Leuch made 41 saves on the day, as the Ponoka Stampeders upended the Coaldale Copperheads 5-4 on Sunday afternoon.

Toran Corbier, Jacob Sayler and Cheyden Rabbit each scored third period goals for Ponoka (4-12-2) to force overtime.

Kacey Straub opened the scoring with the lone goal of the first period.

Clay Spencer and Brendon Benson each found the back of the net in the middle stanza for Coaldale (12-3-1), giving them a 2-1 lead heading into the third period, where Matthew Nadeau and Ryan Swier each added a single.

Dylan Swanson made 34 saves on the Coaldale crease.

Red Deer Vipers (2)

RED DEER – Jaret Bordt’s go-ahead goal with 5:40 left in the third period stood up as the winner as the Okotoks Bisons hung on for a 4-2 win over the Red Deer Vipers on Sunday evening.

Connor Tudor scored on a penalty shot, while adding his second of the game early in the middle stanza to pace the Bisons (10-7-0) offence. Joshua McCulloch sealed the deal with an empty netter in the final two minutes.

Draven Rees was solid between the pipes, stopping 33-of-35 shots fired his way.

Dalton Angeltvedt and Justin Van Tetering each tallied for Red Deer (11-6-0), which got 39 saves from goaltender Branden Bilodeau.

Medicine Hat Cubs (1)

MEDICINE HAT – Levi Barker’s second period shorthanded marker was the game winner as the Cochrane Generals were 3-1 winners over the Medicine Hat Cubs on Sunday afternoon.

After a scoreless first period, Connor Rendell put the Generals (18-2-0) on the board four minutes into the middle stanza.

Ryan Fauth would knot the score at one for the Cubs (2-13-4) with a power-play marker just past the midway mark of the frame, before Barker would put the Generals out in front for good less than two minutes later.

Brandon Aab added an insurance marker in the third period for the Generals, which got 20 saves from goaltender Ty Robinson. Cochrane has now won seven in a row.

Kayden Pickles stood tall in the Medicine Hat crease, stopping 47-of-50 shots on the night.

Blackfalds Wranglers (5)

BLACKFALDS – The Mountainview Colts scored early and often en route to a 14-5 win over the Blackfalds Wranglers on Sunday afternoon.

Tyson Schmidt tallied five times, while Cale Brown, Cole Sutherland and Mitchell Visser each added two goals and two helpers as the Colts (12-2-2) held leads of 5-2 after 20 minutes and 12-4 going into the final frame.

Ryan Klinck, Jack Vergouwen and Wyatt Gelinas rounded out the Mountainview attack, while Thomas Della Siega made 31 saves in goal.

Brody Bolton led the way for the Wranglers (9-6-0) with a pair of tallies, while Eric Moltzahn, Wyatt Fleming and Ryan Chambers each netted a single.
