BANFF – Nathan Cohen-Wallis opened the scoring 5:49 into the first period and then netted the winner in the shootout as the Banff Bears knocked off the Cochrane Generals by a 4-3 score on Sunday evening.

Jake Huculak and Philip Schader also tallied for the Bears (5-14-2), while Michael Binczyk was rock solid between the pipes, making 35 saves along the way.

Slater Ransom had two goals for the Generals (20-4-1), while Chad Harrison chipped in with a single.

Ryan Simpson suffered the loss in goal, making 23 saves on the day.

Ponoka Stampeders (2)

PONOKA – Brody Kalinowski put the game away 2:56 into overtime as the Red Deer Vipers came away with a 3-2 win over the Ponoka Stampeders on Sunday afternoon.

Declan Johnston and Dalton Angeltvedt scored in regulation for the Vipers (15-7-1), while Cole Sears made 25 saves in net.

The Stampeders (5-15-3) got first-period goals from Roenick Minde and Nate Higgins, giving them a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.

The Vipers knotted the score up at 2-2 in the middle stanza, before the teams played to a scoreless third period.

Robert Michetti stopped 42-of-45 shots fired his way in the Ponoka crease.

Medicine Hat Cubs (3)

OKOTOKS – Joshua McCulloch had the winner as the Okotoks Bisons extended their winning streak to a league-best six games on Sunday afternoon.

Matthew Balagus, Kyle Becker, Robbie McLean and Taylor McNeill rounded out the scoring for the Bisons (16-8-0), which prevailed with a 5-3 win over the visiting Medicine Hat Cubs (4-15-5).

With the teams tied late in the third period, it was McCulloch’s 19th goal of the season that stood up as the game winner, while goaltender Matthew McDonald stopped 33-of-36 shots fired his way between the pipes.

Matt Clement scored twice for Medicine Hat, while Alex Engel added his third of the year.

Dan Maier made 45 saves in a losing effort.

BLACKFALDS – Rylan Bardick stopped all 25 shots he faced as the Blackfalds Wranglers hung on for a 2-0 win over the Three Hills Thrashers.

Austin Wilson opened the scoring, while Garrett Glasman added his 16th of the season for the Wranglers (14-8-0), which held a 48-25 shot advantage.

Greg Pols stood tall between the pipes for the Thrashers (5-16-1), making 46 saves on the day.

Three Hills has now lost nine straight.

Coaldale Copperheads (4)

STRATHMORE – Behind a three-goal afternoon from Brooker Pretty Youngman, the Strathmore Wheatland Kings prevailed with a 7-4 win over the Coaldale Copperheads on Sunday.

Pretty Youngman scored twice in the first period to give the Wheatland Kings (9-11-3) a 4-1 lead after 20 minutes. The teams traded goals in the middle stanza before the Copperheads (16-6-1) would cut the deficit to just one prior to the midway mark of the final frame.

Keenan Ogle, Matt Thomson and Kody Hammond each finished with a goal and assist for Strathmore, while Zachary Meadows potted a single.

Brady Hoover made 28 saves between the barber poles to pick up his eighth win of the season.

Clay Spencer scored twice, while Calvin Swanson chipped in with a goal and two helpers for Coaldale, which saw goaltender Dylan Swanson turn aside 32 shots in goal.

Jonathan Zdan rounded out the scoring with his second of the campaign.
