COALDALE – Spencer Bender tallied the winner midway through the first overtime period as the Okotoks Bisons prevailed with a 4-3 win over the Coaldale Copperheads on Saturday evening to take a 2-0 lead in their best-of-seven South Division semifinal series.
Connor Tudor, Mark McLeod and Joshua McCulloch each found the back of the net in regulation for the Bisons, which got a 38-save effort from goaltender Matthew McDonald.
The two teams traded goals all throughout the game as Coaldale led 1-0 after 20 minutes, the Bisons would tie it in the middle frame, before each team would tally twice in the third period.
Levi Anderson led the charge for Coaldale with a pair of goals, while Calvin Swanson added his fifth of the post-season.
Dillan Kelly stopped 38-of-42 shots fired his way in the loss.
The Bisons look to take a commanding 3-0 series lead on Sunday at Murray Arena. Puck drop for Game 3 goes at 1:15pm.
