Whitehead scores OT winner as Bisons take commanding series lead

OKOTOKS – Bradley Whitehead was the overtime hero on Sunday, netting the winner just 38 seconds into the extra frame to give the Okotoks Bisons a 3-2 win and a commanding 3-0 lead in their best-of-seven series with the Coaldale Copperheads.

Whitehead may have been the overtime hero on the day, but it was Connor Tudor that made it possible. The 21-year-old found the back of the net with just two seconds remaining in regulation to knot the score at two apiece.

Jaret Bordt rounded out the Okotoks scoring, while Matthew McDonald stopped 29-of-31 shots fired his way to earn the win between the pipes.

Austin Huculak and Calvin Swanson had the goals for Coaldale.

The two teams were tied 1-1 after 20 minutes and again going into the third period, before Swanson put the Copperheads up 2-1 just 5:37 into the final frame.

Dillan Kelly finished with 33 saves on the day.

Okotoks can close out the series and punch a ticket to South Division finals against Cochrane with a Game 4 win on Tuesday in Coaldale. Puck drop goes at 7:30pm.
