Monster night from Benson propels Coaldale to Game 1 win

COCHRANE – A monster night from Brendon Benson paced the Coaldale Copperheads to an 8-5 win over the Cochrane Generals on Tuesday evening, giving them a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven South Division final series.

Benson found the back of the net three times and added four assists, while teammate Matt Krusky added two goals and three assists.

Calvin Swanson also added a pair of markers, while Brady Parenteau rounded out the scoring with a single.

Goaltender Dylan Swanson came on in relief after the first period, in which Cochrane led 3-0, and stopped 26-of-28 shots over the course of the final 40 minutes.

Colton Wong and Slater Ransom each tallied for Cochrane, while Chad Harrison chipped in with a goal and assist.

After the Generals took a 3-0 lead in the first period, Coaldale responded with six unanswered, including five in the middle stanza.

Game 2 of the series goes Friday night in Cochrane at 7:30pm.
