Houchin scores OT winner, Colts take Game 1

DIDSBURY – Corbin Houchin scored the game-winner 2:42 into overtime to propel the Mountainview Colts to a 4-3 win over the Red Deer Vipers on Wednesday evening in Game 1 of their best-of-seven North Division final series.

Thomas Della Siega picked up the win between the pipes, making 28 saves on the night.

Cale Brown opened the scoring for the Colts with the lone goal of the first period. Evan Ingram added a second period marker, while Tyson Schmidt found the back of the net in the third frame.

Spencer Yeats, Kale Lapointe and Brett Hoppus replied for Red Deer, which got 30 saves from goaltender Branden Bilodeau.

The Vipers trailed 3-1 until Lapointe and Hoppus tallied 1:18 apart midway through the third period to knot the score at three.

Game 2 of the series goes Friday night at the Collicutt Centre in Red Deer. Puck drop is at 8:30pm.
