Vipers take bite out of Generals in Game 1

COCHRANE – In Game 1 of the Heritage Junior Hockey League Championship series on Tuesday evening, it was the visiting team that delivered the first punch.

Branden Bilodeau’s sensational post-season run continued as he made 42 saves to backstop the Red Deer Vipers to a 4-1 win over the Cochrane Generals in the best-of-five series opener.

Tye Munro opened the scoring midway through the first period, Kale Lapointe and Dalton Angeltvdt added second period markers, while Bailey Lawson sealed the deal for Red Deer with a shorthanded effort late in the final frame.

Red Deer led 1-0 after 20 minutes and 3-1 going into the third period.

Chad Harrison scored the lone goal of the game for the Generals, his 10th of the post-season.

Ty Robinson stopped 31-of-35 shots fired his way in the Cochrane crease.

Game 2 of the series goes Saturday evening, March 18, at the Collicutt Centre in Red Deer. Action begins at 8:00pm.
