Day 2: HJHL at the Provincials

The Cochrane Generals and Red Deer Vipers each sit a 1-1-0 after Day 2 of the Hockey Alberta Junior B Provincials in St. Paul, Alberta.

Wetaskiwin Icemen (2) – Red Deer Vipers (1)

Thirty-five saves from Branden Bilodeau wasn’t enough as the Red Deer Vipers were edged 2-1 by the Wetaskiwin Icemen on Friday.

The Vipers trailed 2-0 by the midway mark of the first period, but Kale Lapointe got them on the board early in the final frame, assisted by Brennan Schweder and Logan Linnell.

The loss puts the Vipers at 1-1-0 with one round robin game remaining.

GAME SUMMARY

Cochrane Generals (3) – Fairview Flyers (2)

A two-goal night from Connor Rendell propelled the Cochrane Generals to a 3-2 win over the Fairview Flyers on Friday evening.

Joey Stensland had the other Cochrane marker, while goaltender Ryan Simpson made 29 saves between the barber poles.

The Generals held leads of 1-0 after 20 minutes and 2-1 going into the final frame, where they found themselves tied before Rendell tallied the go-ahead marker with just 38 seconds remaining to keep the Generals’ Provincials hopes alive.

WHAT’S ON TAP?

Cochrane and Red Deer each finish-off the round robin portion of the event on Saturday morning. The Vipers take on the CBHA Rangers at 9:00am (Clancy Richard Arena), while the Generals take on the Wainwright Bisons at 9:30am (CAP Arena).

Semifinal action will take place on Saturday night.
