CANORA WINS THRILLING GAME ONE

CANORA WINS THRILLING GAME ONE

SEHL

Scott Mickoski took advantage of a screen 29 seconds into overtime and whistled a shot past Warren Shymko to give the Canora Cobras a 5-4 win over the Theodore Buffalos in game one of their best of five league semi-final series.

The game was full of suspense as Canora led 2-0 only to fall behind 3-2 late in the second as Bret Peppler scored a shorthanded buzzer beater with 0.7-seconds left on the clock.

Canora came out with two quick goals in the third, a power play score from Mickoski just 31-seconds in and then Derrick Schwartz made it 4-3 just 2:10 after that.

The score remained that way until 19:05 of the third with Shymko on the bench and that's when Dylan Johnson won a faceoff to the left of Branden Sentes and Peppler wired home his second of the game, finding the corner.

However, Mickoski stunned everyone by ending the game before most were back and settled into their seats.

Mickoski and Schwartz each scored a pair of goals for Canora with Brett Duczek adding a single.  Sentes earned the win in net and he's now 13-and-0 as a Cobra in league play.

Johnson had a second period power play goal for the Buffs who also got a late second period marker from Tony Roebuck.

Game two in the series will be played Saturday night at 7:30 in Canora.

The other semi-final will see game two go Saturday night at 8 in Rocanville.  The Tigers blew out the Esterhazy Flyers 12-1 in game one on Thursday night.  The Tigers blew open a 2-0 game with five second period goals and were sparked by Taylor Thompson's four goal evening.  Ryan Regel and Dylan Haney both potted two in the win and 18-year-old Kieren Madill earned the win.  Madill, who had the lowest GAA during the regular season at 2.69, has allowed just two goals in two playoff games.
