Generals Clinch President's Cup

Generals Clinch President's Cup

the NCHL

The Lacombe Generals have clinched their third President's Cup in 4 seasons with two wins at home last weekend.

Luke Coleman celebrates Lacombe's 5th goal on Friday

The Generals 5-2 win over Wetaskiwin on Friday coupled with their 14-1 win over Morinville on Saturday put Lacombe 6 points up on the Longhorns. Lacombe carries the tie breaker with Wetaskiwin as they won both games during the regular season.

Jamie Johnson scores vs Morinville

Wetaskiwin rebounded from their Friday loss to dump the visiting Innisfail Eagles 7-2 on Saturday to leapfrog over the southern Eages and Stony Plain into second place.  The league's other game on the weekend saw hometown Devon Barons slip by Bonnyville 4-1 and pull into a 5th place tie with the idle Camrose Bruins.

Jamie Johnson of Lacombe has been on a tear in January, putting up 13 points in 3 games to put some distance between himself and the rest of the pack for the league's scoring title.

The last three weeks of the schedule should be interesting to see where the teams end up and decide the playoff matchups.
