Generals Sweep Stony Plain

Generals Sweep Stony Plain

NCHL

GENERALS ADVANCE TO THE VANBERG CUP FINALS

One semi-final series was completed last night when the Lacombe Generals defeated the Stony Plain Eagles 3-2 in the third game of the best of 5 semi-final series. Troy Maclise (1-1-2), Jamie Johnson (1-1-2) and Luke Coleman tallied for the Generals while captain Jordan Ceh and Grayson Pawlenchuk replied for the Eagles. Both the General's Mack Engel and Eagle's Wyatt Hoflin had strong games in goal in the tightly contested game.

The third game was a much tamer affair than game 2 which saw players from both teams injured.  Referees Josh Smith and Logan Hill called a tight game, calling Lacombe for 6 minors while Stony Plain was assessed 8 minors in this well played game. Lacombe's power play was the difference on this night as they went 2-8 while Stony Plain was scoreless on 6 attempts. A penalty shot was awarded to the Generals Jamie Johnson in the second period only to be turned away by Eagles goaltender Wyatt Hoflin.

The Generals, who will be appearing in their 4th consecutive Vanberg Cup Finals will now wait for the other semi-final series to play out. Innisfail heads up to Wetaskiwin tonight for game 3 in that series which is currently tied at a game apiece. Game 4 goes in Innisfail on Sunday.  Shoud this series remained tied after this weekend, game 5 is scheduled for next Saturday in Wetaskiwin.
