Week One: McConnell scores four in Moose win

Scoring early and often, the Meadow Ridge Moose opened the South Coast Women’s Hockey League regular season with an 11-0 victory over last season's BC Hockey silver medalist Fraser Valley Jets.
The two teams face off at the Langley Sportsplex Saturday night, where the Moose had period leads of 3-0 and 7-0 on their way to a season-opening victory.
The Moose were paced by former UBC T-Bird Shay-Lee McConnell with four goals and one assist. Madeleine Ericsson added a pair of goals and one helper, with Natalie Richardson, Kacey Lepp, Leeny Adelsberger, Sydney Kreps and Whitney Dove netting a goal each.
Evan Wipp with three assists and five-time SCWHL All-Star Kirsten Langston with two also had multi-point games.
Megan Buchanan, the SCWHL Most Outstanding Goaltender in 2021-22, turned aside 16 Jets shots for her first shutout of the season and her 10th since joining the SCWHL in 2017-18.
In a second game played Saturday night, the Richmond Devils topped the South Fraser TNT by a score of 6-2 at the Richmond Ice Centre.
The Devils got a pair of goals from Marissa Chau, and ne each from Ivana Bilic, Jodie Wong, Nicole Lim and Emily Chau.
The TNT responded with tallies from Keairie Hall and Shea Weighill.
The defending champion North Shore Rebels began their trek towards a third consecutive SCWHL/provincial title with a 4-1 victory over the Surrey Wildcats at Abbotsford’s Summit Centre.
Former Syracuse Orange (2013-17) forward Jess Sibley netted two goals and a pair of assists to lead the Rebels offence. Elexa Pakozdy, a SCWHL First Team All-Star last season, assisted on three of North Shore’s four goals. Jasmine Manha and Emily Froese tallied once each for the winners.
Deb Beaudoin notched the lone goal for the Wildcats, playing in their first-ever game in the SCWHL.
