Week 20: Moose clinch first place

The Meadow Ridge Moose have clinched first place in the South Coast Women’s Hockey League for the second time in three seasons and will be the top seed at the Chilliwack Jets / Axe House SCWHL Provincial Championship Tournament Mar. 22-24 in Chilliwack.
The Moose wrapped up the top spot with a 5-2 victory over the Richmond Devils Saturday night at the Richmond Ice Centre, improving to 20-4-1 (win-loss-tie) on the season.
Former Toronto Furies (CWHL) defender Sydney Kidd scored once and added a pair of assists to lead the Meadow Ridge offence. Sydney Kreps netted a pair of goals to move into the SCWHL scoring lead, while Madeleine Ericsson, Emily Bajkov tallied once each.
For the Devils. Nicole Lim and Emily Costales were the goal scorers.
The Moose lost a chance to wrap up first place Friday night when they hosted the Kamloops Vibe at the Langley Sportsplex but fell 3-1, just their fourth loss of the season in 25 games played.
Brie Bellerive netted the only Moose goal in the third period, pulling the home team to within a goal of the Vibe. But Cassidy Bell scored her second goal of the game with 20 seconds left in the game, firing a shorthanded tally into an open net.  
Sadie Colter had given the Vibe a 1-0 lead after one period of play.
Bell tallied twice and Deanna Trann also scored twice more Saturday afternoon in a 7-1 Vibe win over the Surrey Wildcats at the Summit Centre in Abbotsford. 
Natalie Knight, Michelle Morrison and Sarah Botter added a goal each for Kamloops, with Kiryn Kajla scoring for Surrey.
The Vibe fell 3-0 to the South Fraser TNT Saturday evening at Planet Ice – Coquitlam. Scoring for the TNT were Taralyn Suzuki, Tracey Chang and Alisha Choy, while Melinda Choy made 13 saves for the shutout.
Kamloops and Surrey played a rematch Sunday afternoon at Planet Ice – Delta, with the Vibe coming out on top 3-0. Goalscorers were Bell, Colter and Jaime Sedore, with Fisher earning the shutout with 12 saves.
The three wins in four games played in Metro Vancouver in Week 20 allowed the Vibe to overtake the Fraser Valley Jets for third place in the SCWHL standings and move to within two points of the second place Richmond Devils.
The Jets were on Vancouver Island in Week 20, earning four points from against the Island Surge.
The two teams played to a 2-2 overtime tie Saturday night at the Panorama Rec Centre. Sam Schwartz and Jackie Lang scored for Fraser Valley, with Daytona Penston and Emily Ripley replying for the Surge.
The Jets escaped with a 3-2 win Sunday afternoon at Shawnigan Lake Arena, with Schwartz Sarah Francis and Natasha Steblin scoring. The Surge snipers were Ripley and Logan Hamilton.
