The Quesnel Millionaires clinched a play off berth into the post season for the second year in a row, as Prince George has run out of games. Quesnel lost to Penticton Saturday 5-2, while the Westside Warriors doubled up on Prince George 4-2.
Quesnel opened the scoring in the Vees game with Taylor Orser (2) digging the puck out of the crease area and banging home a rebound. Rigby Burgart had saucered a high shot into the feet of goaltender Joel Rumpel and couldn't handle the bouncing puck. The goal was unassisted at 41 seconds of the second.
Penticton then scored four unanswered goal, including 2 on the power play. The first came from Joey Benik, followed by the power play markers from Brendan O'Donnell and Myles McCauley just under a minute apart at 13:58 and 14:44. The 4th of the period came from Curtis Loik on a 2 on 1 at 18:11.
The Millionaires got back to within 2 at 19:17 as Spencer Graboski (15) scored his first tally in 11 games on the power play as he was fed a pass from Taylor Orser and Stefan Gonzales picked up the second assist.
James Polk scored the final goal of the game in the third peirod at 12:28 to give the Vees their third goal on the power play on the night.
Quesnel will face either the Penticton Vees starting on Thursday, or the Salmon Arm Silverbacks on Friday. The Silverbacks, if they beat Coquitlam tomorrow afternoon would take second place in the Interior Division.
