The Hudson Bay Hunters picked up their first win of the season by squeaking out an exciting 6-5 victory over the Theodore Buffalos, in a shootout, on Saturday night.
The Hunters fell behind 1-0 in the first minute, but rallied for four first period goals in what looked like it was going to be a blowout; but the Buffs worked their way back into it and even took a 5-4 lead when Dallyn Holmstrom buried a Mark Nahnybida pass with 6:10 remaining.
Camacho Lathlin, playing in his first game of the year, forced overtime with 3:24 to go when he rifled a blast from the high slot that eluded Rylan Palchewich, who was excellent in net.
Treven Leason (unofficially the goaltender of record) was also spectacular at times for the Hunters (no game sheet received, so there may be discrepancies online from reality).
Dallyn Campbell had three assists for Hudson Bay, who also got two goals from Cody Chasse a couple of minutes apart in the first period and then singles from Anthony Keeper and Conner Kovach.
Derrick Schwartz had two for the Buffs, other singles came from Nahnybida and Bryce Pelechaty.
The shootout went six rounds with Alex Kovach ending it after a save was made on Holmstrom.
The Hunters hit the road next weekend for a pair in Esterhazy. Theodore goes to Ochapowace on Saturday.
