The Ochapowace Thunder broke open a 3-3 game with four third period goals on their way to a 7-4 win over the Hudson Bay Hunters Sunday afternoon, completing a weekend sweep on the road.
Leland Wasacase paced the offense with four goals while Anthony Kinistino added a goal and four assists. Jonas Thomson scored once and set up three others.
Wasacase scored his third of hte afternoon four and a half minutes into the third and then Rance Thomson scored to make it 5-3 at 6:12.
Brady Myhr got Hudson Bay to within one with 5:45 to go but the Thunder sealed it with a Jonas Thomson goal at 17:09 and then Wasacase finished the scoring with a minute to go.
Camacho Lathlin had a goal and two assists for the Hunters with other goals coming from Tyler Kushniruk and Dallyn Campbell.
On Saturday, it was a similar story as the two teams were tied 5-5 after two before the Thunder emerged 8-6 victors.
Kinistino and Jonas Thomson scored two and a half minutes apart early in the third to make it a 7-5 game before Aaron Melnychuk got the home side to within one. Kinistino sealed it with :39 remaining in regulation.
Kinistino picked up two goals and four assists to lead Ochapowace. Jonas Thomson had two and two helpers. Wilson Dumais, who didn't play on Sunday, had a hat trick. Ron Cote had a goal and two assists.
Kushniruk and Lathlin had two goals and one assist each for Hudson Bay with Melnychuk and Beau Purves contributing singles.
The Thunder improve to 5-2-and-1 and are two points back of Bredenbury for first place, but the Cougars have a game in hand.
The Hunters drop to 1-and-7 and trail fourth place Theodore by three points for the final playoff spot. The Buffs have two games in hand.
Friday night, the Cougars are in Theodore to play a game that was supposed to be played this weekend.
Saturday, Hudson Bay is at Theodore in what will be a crucial contest for both teams as far as playoff implications are concerned.
