Mike Rogoschewsky scored with 2:26 remaining in the first overtime to lift Esterhazy to a 6-5 win over the Bredenbury Cougars on Saturday night, squaring up their best of five semi-final series at one win apiece.
The Flyers did lead by as much as 5-2 but the Cougars got a score from Zach Korchinski with six minutes remaining in the second and got a couple of goals early in the third as Sean Kolodziejski and Colby Jacob got markers three minutes apart.
Drew Putland led Esterhazy with two goals and one assist. Cole Paquin, Colton Schick, and Koal Roberts rounded out the goals for the Flyers.
Meanwhile, Theodore stunned hometown Ochapowace but lost on Saturday 8-3 despite having a 3-1 lead midway through the second period.
Jonas Thomson scored three goals and one assist and then picked up a gross misconduct at the end of the night. Trey Bear, Matt Lavallee, Anthony Kinistino, Everett Bear, and Kirkland Cameron also scored for the Thunder.
Tanner Melnychuk, Riley Stefanyshyn, and Jordan Evans did the damage for the Buffs.
On Friday, Keanan Sperling had two goals and two assists to lead Theodore to the upset win.
The Thunder led 3-2 when Andrew Dingle scored with four minutes and change left in the second, then Derrick Schwartz got his second of hte game to put the Buffs ahead. Sperling and Troy Zuylniak rounded out the scoring.
Kinistino, Kirk Bear, Caine Bear, and Ron Cote scored for Ochapowace.
Both series will resume on Friday, March 6 in Bredenbury and Ochapowace respectively.
